Palette Knife

Copper Pot And Orange

Copper Pot And Orange, 10 x 10 oil painting

Painting from a photograph has challenges for any plein air painter. One technique to train the mind and keep the painter engaged is to turn the photo upside down. Your left brain creates patterns and shapes rather than objects (e.g. copper pot and orange). Using a palette knife is another technique to aid in keeping your painting loose. This entire painting used a palette knife until the very end. A brush was used only in a few detail areas.   I’m very pleased with the finished painting. What you think?
