Artist’s Statement

My love of plein air painting started with my rural upbringing in the rolling hills of Wyoming. In sixth grade, I won a state-wide art contest and never looked back. After receiving my B.A. in Art, I worked as an architectural illustrator.

In 2002, a trip through Europe inspired me to renew my passion for oil painting. My art education is enhanced by attending demonstrations and plein air workshops with nationally known artists and by studying classic art books from and about Impressionist masters and early California Impressionists. This knowledge blends with my innate style and flows onto my canvases to draw observers into my oil paintings. I’m equally comfortable painting landscapes, seascapes, figures, and architecturally interesting homes and buildings.

As a traditional Impressionist style oil painter, I strive to create museum-quality art. My pieces use a loose approach, limited palette, and objective perspective so that any two viewers are able to interpret one of my paintings differently. A properly selected composition that is well-executed can bring a lifetime of enjoyment to a collector. Because of my philosophy and painting goals, I only paint originals and do not reproduce my work.
